Rumors of her involvement began in the summer, though Lionsgate made the official announcement early Friday that the Academy Award nominee will play the leader of the much forgotten District 13.
Moore will be joining the ever growing cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci all reprising their roles, and newbies Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, and Evan Ross.
President Coin is in charge of District 13, a district that was obliterated and abandoned by the Capitol of Panem during a rebellion years ago. She clashes with Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) over methods in bringing the Capitol down, thus leading Katniss to become suspicious over Coin.
Mockingjay parts 1 and 2 will follow heroine Katniss Everdeen’s (Lawrence) journey as she leads a rebellion to bring down the corrupt government known as the Capitol.
Francis Lawrence is set to direct part 1 & 2 of Mockingjay, after taking over directorial duties in Catching Fire, opening on Nov. 22, 2013.
Mockingjay: Part 1 is set to be released Nov. 21, 2014, and Mockingjay: Part 2 on Nov. 20, 2015.
