Julianne Hough stays Footloose, leaving country music behind

Just over one year ago, St. Louis country music fans got a treat when KDNL began broadcasting The Country Network on its subchannel 30.3.  Back to back country music videos on a free, non-cable channel gave many St. Louisans the chance to watch country music videos for the first time.   When the program was in its infancy, a few select videos were played frequently, including one by Julianne Hough.

The video for That Song In My Head featured Julianne Hough walking along a pier on a sunny day interchanged with scenes of her at a tailgate party.  After finding herself attracted to a particular guy at the party, they began talking and later dancing in the bed of a pickup truck.  The song is an upbeat, feel-good kind of song that speaks to being carefree and falling in love.   A later release, My Hallelujah Song, was about a girl who had finally made it to where she wanted to be in life.

Country music fans who enjoyed Julianne Hough's music and were waiting for a follow up album may be very disappointed.   Apparently, Julianne Hough has come to the realization that she's feeling pulled in a very different direction.

Since her role as a dancer in the 2010 film, Burlesque, and her starring role in the 2011 remake of Footloose, Julianne Hough has found her calling in film.  Julianne Hough will appear on the big screen once again when her latest film, Rock of Ages, hits theaters in June.  Julianne Hough has had the good fortune of finding roles that allow her to combine her desire to act with her experience from performing on and winning Dancing With the Stars multiple times.  The film roles have been so well suited to the young star that she feels she has found a connection there unlike anything she experienced in the country music industry.

Julianne Hough has actually recorded another country music album, but there's been no indication of when or if it will ever be released.  Julianne Hough has stated that she loves singing, but for right now, she's leaning toward more film roles.

St. Louis fans who aren't quite ready to let go of Julianne Hough's music can still find her self-titled album at Target and watch her videos on The Country Network. Otherwise, to support Julianne Hough in her new pursuits, look for Rock of Ages in St. Louis theaters June 15th.
