Was Julianne Hough’s blackface Halloween costume an epic fail or merely fan frenzy? The actress and “Dancing With the Stars” alum dressed as Crazy Eyes from the Netflix hit “Orange is the New Black” on Friday night, and according to The Huffington Post, has received some serious backlash over her choice of attire.
The 25-year-old beauty swapped the ballroom gown for an orange jumpsuit, Crazy Eyes’ Bantu knots, and blackface makeup when Julianne Hough and a group of friends, all dressed like characters from “Orange is the New Black,” attended the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party in Hollywood.
I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.
The repercussion over Julianne Hough’s blackface Halloween costume was less than expected, at least as seen in the comments section under The Huffington Post’s report or beneath her Twitter apology, which showed support for the dancer and didn’t feel she crossed a line.
However, Julianne did receive harsh criticism, especially from The Madam Editor, who lashed out against the “racist” Halloween costume on Twitter. Below displays just one of the tweets thrown at Hough for her insensitive choice of attire.
