Julianne Hough was abused as a child growing up in England while learning dance, RadarOnline reports Jan. 2. The former "Dancing with the Stars" pro-dancer tells the February 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan that because she had to look so mature far beyond her years in a highly sexualized industry, she was tormented for it.
“While I was in London, I was abused, mentally, physically, everything,” Julianne told Cosmo. “I’m a very forgiving person, and I don’t want to hurt anybody. What’s past is past.”
All of this happened before Julianne was even 15-years-old. She moved from Utah to England when she was only 10.
The dancer-turned-actress added that she was 10, she looked 28. She was learning to be very sensual on the dance floor and took a lot of abuse and harassment, but she never said from whom.
Julianne went on to say, “I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer. I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy façade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love.”
Things got really bad with her abuser when she hit puberty. Julianne was told if she went back to the U.S. she would amount to nothing, wind up working for Whataburger, or would be a slut. Her parents never knew she was abused at the time. She took all on herself and admits she was "too perfect."
Over time, Julianne realized she was her own person and didn't deserve the disrespect thrown at her. She said her recent acting role made her want to share this story and wants to be a voice for those abused who don't have one.
