Julianne and Derek Hough will executive-produce a new fictional dancing show called "Blackpool" Starz announced on Feb. 26. The former "Dancing With the Stars" pro Derek and the former DWTS sweetheart and now singer-actress Julianne will delve into the "darker side of the glamorous world of ballroom dance" according to the Starz network. The brother-sister team will also act as head choreographers for the new series.
A statement on Julianne's website explained that "Blackpool" will explore:
"the dancer's obsession with perfection and the darker side of the glamorous world of ballroom dance."
The show will evolve around a yearly ballroom dance competition in Blackpool, England. Derek mentioned that this series will push into the hidden areas of the sport of ballroom dancing. He states there is scandal and politics involved and he hopes to show that aspect of ballroom dancing in the new series.
At the present time, the Houghs have no plans to actually appear in the new series. They do intend to be aggressively a part of hiring and casting. Julianne is currently on an international press tour for her film "Safe Haven" and mentions that she is currently getting together with possible writers in London.
