Julian Lane won his opening fight on season 16 of the “Ultimate Fighter” and is now an official cast member on the show.
Season 16 debuted tonight on FX with coaches Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson overseeing the preliminary fights.
Lane, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, was among 32 welterweights trying to earn one of 16 spots and move into the “Ultimate Fighter” house.
Last April Lane had fought at lightweight in the Bellator Fighting Championships but moved up to welterweight to make the show.
The 25-year-old took on Lakewood, Calif. native Diego Bautista in his opening fight. Lane would win by decision but UFC president Dana White described the fight as a “boring” decision.
Due to his “boring” decision, Lane was the last fighter picked by Roy Nelson and will join his team for the season.
Lane will now move into the “Ultimate Fighter” house and must win four straight fights to win season 16. The winner of the “Ultimate Fighter” will earn a six-figure UFC contract and a custom Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The “Ultimate Fighter” will air every Friday at 9 p.m. ET on FX.
