What do you like to watch on TV when you’re at home?
I watch [Stephen] Colbert. I watch “The Daily Show.” I watch “Meet the Press.” I watch “Face the Nation.” I watch C-SPAN. I watch “Homeland,” “Breaking Bad,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Girls” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
You’ve won Emmy Awards for being on “Seinfeld” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” How does winning an Emmy Ward for “Veep” compare to winning an award for those other shows?
I would say that this is just a hell of a lot of good fortune. I’m particularly moved to get this [award] for the third series that I’ve done. I mean, I need an Advil. I have a headache. I can’t believe it. I’m very thrilled and moved.
How much of what’s happening in politics influence what you’re thinking about “Veep” and where the show is going?
It’s greatly influenced me and where the show is going. It’s an amazing time in politics, but frankly, all time in politics is kind of amazing on a certain level. But it seems politics are front and center right now in our lives. There’s a lot of good, rich material out there from which to glean — not parody, but there are little morsels that we can take away almost every day, it seems.
How will you be celebrating your Emmy win?
I’m going to be having a glass of wine. My husband and I brought our 15-year-old son to the show tonight. And so it’s very exciting that he’s here. So he’ll go to the Governor’s Ball with us, and then he has to go home because he has school tomorrow. And then his dad and I are going to go out and live it up a little tonight, I think, for sure.
