Julia Lipnitskaya falls during Olympic figure skating; hurts her score (photos)

Julia Lipnitskaya entered the ice and the crowd in Sochi roared in delight. One of the youngest figure skaters on the Olympic ice at the ladies figure skating event was a hometown favorite. Showing some amazing spins and giving a strong performance, there was no doubt the athlete’s marks for Wednesday’s short skate performance were reflective of her fall on the ice. According to NBC Olympics, the skater was one of the favored women in the competition. The Sochi Olympic short program score definitely was lower than expected by fans with a 65.23.

Julia Lipnitskaya knew it was going to be an uphill struggle once she finished her program. If she wants to medal in Sochi she needs to catch up to Kim Yuna and her first program definitely didn't do that. The fall did pull her score down, but if she performs strong on Thursday she might have a comeback that will put her on the podium.

As for Julia Lipnitskaya’s fall, it looked like she hit the ice really hard. Her hand looked especially sore as she held it after the performance while waiting for her score. Hopefully it isn't too badly hurt and she can bounce back.

Julia Lipnitskaya surprised the Olympic figure skating world in Sochi today, but as everyone knows she is only human and doing her best on the ice. Take a look at the photo slideshow of Julia Lipnitskaya performing in Sochi!
