Juice in the New Year

Instead of ringing in the New Year, how about juicing it in? Not with oranges, grapes or apples. How about something different?

There are four wonderful choices one might consider. They are acai berries, pomegranate, mangosteen and goji berries. These exotic sources are chock full of healthy ingredients.

The acai berries grow in the Brazilian rain forest. They contain 10 times the anthocyanins of red wine and are a great source of antioxidants.

The pomegranate is known as an anti-cancer “warrior” found to slow the spread of prostate cancer. The seeds of this wonderful fruit are healthy, too.

The mangosteen grows in Southeast Asia and South America, but the juice is available in the United States. It contains potent antioxidant levels and combats inflammation.

The last fruit mentioned in this short article is goji berries. These raisin-like berries are credited with stimulating production of growth hormones in humans. They provide more vitamin C than oranges, more beta-carotene than carrots and more iron than soybeans or spinach.

So, when it comes to ringing in the New Year, try juicing it in. If one’s New Year’s resolution is to try different things, add juice to the list.
