More than 100 girls are in Pasadena, Calif. Saturday and Sunday with the goal of being crowned Miss California Teen USA 2013.
Preliminary competition in swimsuit and evening gown categories was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Final competition is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m.
The winner will represent California at the Miss Teen USA 2013 Pageant. The national teen pageant has, in recent years, been webcast live during the summer from the Bahamas.
The Miss Teen USA Pageant is co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC Universal. The partnership also owns the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.
Reigning state queen is Miss California Teen USA 2012 Alexa Jones.
Born in Ramona, she lives in Poway, an unincorporated town in San Diego County that is, perhaps, best known as the birthplace of the rock band Blink-182.
Jones, 19, is a student at California State University in San Marcos. Her goal is to be a broadcast journalist in California.
"We are home to one of the largest entertainment industries, so you never know who you might run into," she wrote for her pageant biography. "There is so much to do in California and the weather almost always cooperates. I especially enjoy our beautiful beaches, hiking in the mountains and of course attending local famous attractions like the 'happiest place on earth - Disneyland."
