According to a report on MyrtleBeachOnline, Judge Aaron C. Butler, an Horry County magistrate, denied bond Sunday morning to the Conway man charged with the murder of a Coastal Carolina University student earlier this week.
The suspect charged in the killing, Marquis Spencer McDonald, 20, was scheduled for an initial hearing at 1 p.m. April 26.
McDonald has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Anthony Liddell, a sophomore majoring in sports medicine at Coastal Carolina University. Liddell was shot in the chest Tuesday evening in the parking lot of University Place campus apartments and died from his injuries at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center about an hour later.
No motive has been released and the relationship between the two men remains unclear, although the report on MyrtleBeachOnline quoted McDonald as saying, "This is one of my best friends that got killed. He saved my life. If it weren’t for him, he would be in here and I would be dead," during this morning's bond hearing.
According to Thom Berry, spokesman for State Law Enforcement Division, the investigation is ongoing and it was unclear if any other arrests could be made in connection with the shooting.
