It looks like I called it when I said that David Slade's signing on to direct Phoenix Pictures' "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," based on part of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula" would kick-start the project. That was the 12th. Three days later and Bleeding Cool is reporting that Jude Law may be about to sign on for a "lead role." Ben Kingsley and Swedish "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leading lady Noomi Rapace were already attached.
No word on who exactly Law would be playing. The movie will adapt the little-filmed portion of Stoker's seminal vampire novel in which the cargo ship Demeter transports 50 boxes of Transylvanian earth to England. One of those boxes carries a passenger, and during the course of the voyage, the crew begins to die or disappear, one by one. Whether Law would be playing a member of the crew, or perhaps the secret passenger himself, isn't clear at this point.
This would be Slade's third straight vampire film. He's very hot right now, coming off "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," but before that also directed "30 Days of Night." He also directed the very unsettling 2005 horror thriller "Hard Candy," which starred the then-unknown Ellen Page.
