Juan Roman Riguelme, midfielder of Argentine club Boca Juniors, is still confident that his team could reach the round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores in South America.
ESPN Deportes reported on Thursday, right after the game against Uruguayan team Nacional, that Riquelme is still confident about Boca’s ability to advance out of group 1 of the Copa Libertadores, the most prestigious international club tournament of South America.
Riquelme stated that Boca played better than Nacional. However, games are won with goals, and Riquelme told the press that Nacional got their goal and Boca didn’t.
The midfielder had also expressed that he’s hurt about the fact that this is their second loss at home in this international tournament, the first was the opener against Mexican team Toluca.
After the loss, Boca is now third place out of four teams. The race in the group is tight, so any team could still qualify for the round of 16. The top two teams continue into the next phase.
The game on Thursday against Nacional was a huge upset since Boca Juniors dominated the game. Boca shot 10 times compared to Nacional’s three times.
Also, Nacional had scored on a header from a corner kick. The Uruguayan team only had two corners in the whole game. Boca had 12 corner kicks with no results.
Boca’s next Copa Libertadores game will be in Uruguay to face Nacional again on March 14.
