Juan Manuel Marquez picks Pacquiao, but...

During his Friday appearance on ESPN Deportes Golpe a Golpe, Juan Manuel Marquez expressed his thoughts on the November 13 bout between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.

Marquez, Pacquiao’s arch-nemesis, picked the Filipino to walk away as the victor against Margarito.

“His speed will be the difference against Margarito,” said Marquez.

But during the course of the on air discussion, the lightweight champion also laid out his tactical plan for a Margarito upset.

“Margarito must keep his distance,” said Marquez, “and when he attacks, fire off combinations of three or more punches.”

Marquez’s plan is a good one, as walking into Pacquiao’s whirlwind attack is counter intuative, but it fails to take into account Margarito’s fighting style which is punctuated by flat-footed plodding, where taking three or four punches in order to land a few of his own is the norm.

Margarito has never displayed the ability to fight on the balls of his feet, keeping distance, and weaving in and out.

It must be hard for Marquez to realize that most world class fighters are not as skilled as he is.

During his appearance on the weekly boxing news show, Marquez stated that he is looking forward to the Margarito - Pacquiao fight and that he hopes Pacquiao will eventually get in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Junior.

I hope that Marquez fight cotto so he can have a 3rd chance to fight pacquiao....Honestly, a marquez vs pacquioa is more competitive than pacquiao vs mayweather because pacquiao will knock the furk out of money may very easily, I see money getting KOed in 2 rounds like hatton with his head pounding against the canvas and having combulsion. Money will be taken in a stretcher to get him out of the ring.

so marquez, fight cotto in welter, prove your worth in welter or just shup up and remain as one of the pacmans critic and silent admirer...LOLZ

  • Mr. Bang Bang 1 year ago

Are you insane? Definitely Marquez wont fight cotto!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

If Marquez won't fight Cotto, then Clottey will do..... still unsatisfied? Maybe he can try washed-up Hatton then.

Marquez vs. Dela Hoya would be funnier to watch, i think.

Why you all guys picking up on Marquez? He is a discent person, an excellent fighter with a big heart. I think he should call out Mike Tyson. Have Mike tyson unretaire...Now that is intertaining.......lol

Marquez vs Dela Hoya will be WASHED-UP VS WASHED-UP.

  • larry villacorte 1 year ago

Marquez is right! Speed will set the difference in this fight. Right now, with the crop of fighters from lightweight to junior middleweight, Manny Pacquiao is unbeatable.

  • omagalovely 1 year ago

of course, he really wants to see how Manny Pacquiao battered the ugly face of the hypocrit best in boxing.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Hmmm.... this writer hasn't posted an article on Mayweather's rant. Funny.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

i'm glad he has not, that crap makes mongoloid floid stay in the news.

  • jin 1 year ago

noticed that as well for a long time.. when it comes to pacquiao this writer is highly critical compared to floyd jr.. he is pure floyd nuthugger together w/ his friend paul magno.. they talk like demi-gods when it comes to boxing and it seems that their opinion is the only thing true that could save the sport. But no matter what they do, it still shows in their actions that they can't accept someone better than their own. a mark of true racist.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

haha... can't wait for RLo's next article praising his idol "the great fraud"

  • kibitzer 1 year ago

At least there are still writers who knows the meaning of "journalistic decency"..... someone who descerns which news is worth writing and otherwise. That differentiates the ethical thinking jouralist from the other groups.

  • kibitzer 1 year ago

Why make news out of Floyd's stupidity? That makes you stupid as well. Why stoop to the level of mongoloids? You're worst than the mongoloids if you do. In other words, Floyd doesn't deserve any attention this time around and some writers 'may' have finally realized it like Ric Lois - a former Pac basher turned believer.

he was an american?! right! better he was not a negroid!hahahahahaha.....shame on gayweather...

  • Rony 1 year ago

Wow! There may be 80,000 people upset if PacMan kayo Margarito in one round. I got a strong, strange feeling that Margarito is going to be down and out in one round.

    I think 1 1/2 rounds!

hes wants pac to win so he can fight the winner pac, not the loser pac.
because fighting the loser always took the downfall unto his next opponent.
    JMM is clever.

EXCUSE ME, JMMarquez you KNOW the TACTICAL PLAN how to beat MPacquiao, but but but you did not beat that guy. i thinked you did not use the tactical plan during Pacquiao-Marquez II. Pacquiao beats all the best fighter like Morales,Barrera, Marquez, Diaz, Dela Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, and Clottey. , all this boxers have one thing in common to say to Margarito " WELCOME TO THE CLUB " lol. What do you think Mr. Ricardo Lois ?

    Here's what i heard....bla bla bla...i'm black...looser!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Marquez is right. He has a foresight of what will happen to Margarito because he experienced it twice and he knows the taste of Pacman's fist, taste like adobo.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Marquez love the taste of adobo that is why he is begging for a third fight with the Pacman. hehehehe...

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

That was how MARQUEZ lost by UNANIMOUS decision to Chris John but it may not work when fighting against Manny. He has improved a lot his footwork and his angles are difficult to foresee just like how Hatton ended.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I hope manny's last fight will be JMM. The fight will be at any weight they are comfortable at and held here in the Philippines. Sounds exciting. =)

  • P.Berto 1 year ago

    Cotto will kill Marquez

  • manila trick 1 year ago

Marquez is right. It's really smart to say that Pacquiao will win this bout. Margarito should keep a distance. Use his reach and size. But I don't think that Margarito will do this. He can't KO Pacquiao. Marquez doesn't have a chance at Pacquiao in 145+ lbs.

you're just after a big payday JMM. you can't match Manny this time. BA sees nothing special in you either in econimics or in plain fight with the p4p now. abd besides, we do know that you were already beaten by Manny. so, stop dreaming.

  • liwnuj 1 year ago

Before marquez wants a rematch with pacquiao.he has to defeat all the foes that pacquiao encounter after they fought.like the likes of diaz,de lahoya, hatton, cotto, clottey and later margarito.and if he beats them all then, he has the rights to fight pacquiao for their trilogy...

  • Kixterfafa 1 year ago

JMM should also realize that Pacquiao is not the same as when he fought him the second time. Pac has no KO right hook back then, and his movement is better. So, his advice might help him but Margarito fight the same way since. Like hatton, Antonio loves coming foreward, he relies on his size and chin so whenever he attacks, even when he gets hit, he still can pressure his opponents..

Size advantage doesnt really apply against Pacquiao because of his footspeed. He can get inside and get out, even with long reach he can slip inside and hit you with his weird angle shot. Margarito will be surprise like everybody for sure. So for me key to this fight, speed and power. Power because he must hurt Antonio, if he cant hurt him, he will still br a threat by pressuring Pacquiao at will, even if he gets hit.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Pacquiao vs Marquez fight will draw more attention to the media than Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Provided however that Marquez must fight either Cotto or Clottey to prove his worth to challenge the Pac for the third and final match. A Pacquiao win over Marquez (without proving himself among formidable welter) will turn into nothing but unlimited issues.

  • Joe Lab 1 year ago

The nice words for Pacman from Juan Manuel Marquez are most welcome. We consider him as one of the toughest Manny ever fought..

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Yes, he was a very very tough opponent. Especially that first fight when he got knocked down three times in the 1st round by pacman, and amazingly he came back in that fight and made it a very competitive and strong fight. Much respect to JMM.

  • The Little Dragon 1 year ago

Try telling that to Margarito! Haha. He looked like a bumbling oaf against Shane. Let's see if he can pull out an upset against Pac using that kind of style. Trust me, he's no Marquez.

And yes. I really want to see Morales vs Marquez. Oh man, I hope it happens next year.

    Who needs Floyd anyway?

  • pactard 1 year ago

I say Marquez vs Morales! before he takes the million dollar dance with PAC
