April 19, 2010 - Dominican singer and composer Juan Luis Guerra organized yesterday's concert, Un Canto de Esperanza por Haiti (A Song of Hope for Haiti), to gather funds for the construction of a children's hospital in Haiti. This was Guerra's effort to help Haiti after the devastation suffered by the earthquake on January 12, 2010.
Thousands of people showed up for the event also headlined by Milly Quesada, Enrique Iglesias, Miguel Bose, Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, Luis Fonsi, Maridalia Hernandez, and Johnny Ventura. Juan Luis Guerra opened and closed the concert with some of his most famous merengues and bachatas.
Of his participation, Iglesias commented: "More than an honor, it was our duty to be here. Few times do we have the opportunity to offer our grain of sand to causes this important. Sharing this adventure with these singers, whom I admire so much, adds on to my satisfaction. I thank Juan Luis for including us and let's do even more. This is just as start."
The concert was held at 8 pm in the Santo Domingo Olympic Stadium, Dominican Republic.
