NASCAR Nationwide Series team JR Motorsports announced on Tuesday that Austin Theriault will drive the No. 5 Chevrolet in three Nationwide races for JRM in 2014, with the first being the driver's series debut on May 18 at Iowa Speedway in Newton. He will also drive the No. 5 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon on July 12 and at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta on Sept. 20.

"I am excited to be continuing my professional development with JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series," Theriault said. "I have been working hard for this opportunity, and to be associated with JR Motorsports and (sponsor) SPY is a dream come true."

Therault is a late model racer. In 2013, he won three Pro All Star Series races and claimed eight top-10 finishes in 25 race starts. The year prior, he was the Maine Vintage Race Car Association's Driver of the Year and won the "Maine Young Guns" competition. He also became a developmental driver for Brad Keselowski Racing on a part-time basis in 2012.

"Our company is known for putting young talent in cars and giving them a shot on one of NASCAR's biggest stages, and that is what we are giving Austin with this three-race opportunity," JR Motorsports General Manager Kelley Earnhardt Miller said. "This keeps our No. 5 car on the track, and it gives Austin the chance to show what he's got with a lot more eyeballs taking notice."

Driving the No. 5, Theriault will be a teammate to Regan Smith (No. 7) and Chase Elliott (No. 9), JRM's full-time Nationwide Series drivers. The No. 5 car has been driven, primarily, by Kevin Harvick, so far, in 2014. Afdter seven races, the No. 5 is fourth in the series owner points standings.
