Jamie Dimon, longtime CEO of JPMorgan, announced a serious diagnosis Tuesday. According to CNBC, Dimon shared with staffers that he has "curable" throat cancer.

Dimon reportedly revealed his diagnosis through a note to his staff Tuesday, stating, "The good news is that the prognosis from my doctors is excellent, the cancer was caught quickly, and my condition is curable."

JPMorgan's board of directors has been briefed on his condition. Treatment is expected to include about eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that, in 2014, there will be 12,630 new cases of laryngeal cancer, which involves the larnyx; and 14,410 new cases of pharyngeal cancer, which involves the pharnyx. The larnyx is also known as the voice box. The pharnyx is the hollow tube inside the neck that starts behind the nose and ends at the top of the windpipe and esophagus.

Also according to the NCI, some 3,610 people will die from laryngeal throat cancer this year; 2,540 are expected to die from pharyngeal throat cancer.

Symptoms of throat cancer include:

  • A sore throat or cough that does not go away.
  • Trouble or pain when swallowing.
  • Ear pain.
  • A lump in the neck or throat.
  • A change or hoarseness in the voice.

Dimon’s announcement came on the day he celebrated his 10th anniversary at the head of the bank. He is now the longest-tenured CEO among the major U.S. banks. During his leadership, which began when JPMorgan acquired Dimon-led Bank One a decade ago, JPMorgan has undergone numerous challenges.

The cancer is believed to be contained in Dimon's throat and lymph nodes on his right side.

Dimon delivered an extra dose of his positive attitude to the memo, adding, "I feel very good now and will let all of you know if my health situation changes."
