To the suspected thief, it may have been a spur of the moment lark.
To the authorities, it's a case of grand theft auto.
A $1,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can help Chula Vista police identify a man who strolled into a business, grabbed a set of keys and drove off in a 2004 Jeep Liberty.
It happened October 20, mid-morning, in the 600 block of L Street and the incident was captured on the store's surveillance camera, police said.
The man walked into the business to have his laptop computer repaired. While the victim was assisting, the man can be seen on the tape swiping the owner's car keys from the counter. He can then be seen driving away in the owner's Jeep.
Four days later, the vehicle was found in the 600 block of F Street in Chula Vista.
Anyone with information on the man can call the San Diego Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Anonymous email and text messages can also be sent in via www.sdcrimestoppers.com.
