Joyous July Activities

Finally summer has arrived and we have the unbearable heat and sporadic thunderstorms to prove it. The temperatures have exceeded 90 in the last couple of weeks, pollen season is definitely here, many children have been out of school for about a month now, and the mosquitoes are showing up in large amounts. The positive and exciting part being that the weather allows for us to get outside more, experience a variety of seasonal activities, and be a part of the sights, smells, and sounds of summer.

Each year there are many fun-filled family events in the Denver area to encounter. This year I’ve noticed a few new events. I’ve listed some fun ones to get you started.

City Park Jazz – Colorado Blvd. and 17th Avenue just east of Downtown Denver

This venue features free concerts in the park every Sunday throughout August 3rd.

Coming up this weekend on Sunday July 13th The Dave Watts Ensemble of Deepness will be performing from 6:00-8:00PM. Get ready for a musical twist of jazz, funk, and electronic music. Meanwhile the kiddos can feed the ducks as you watch and listen.

There are more shows to follow on July 20th and 27th.

Denver Botanic Gardens Chihuly Exhibit – York Street location in Denver

In case you were wondering what type of exhibit this is I’ll give you hint; structured, bright, and bold presentations. Dale Chihuly is an American artist with plenty of colorful style and flair, and this is extremely apparent in his sculptures which immensely accentuate the already gorgeous gardens. This is a first for the Rocky Mountains in terms of being a major outdoor art exhibit. It’s a must see. Open daily through November 30th. Non- Member adults are $15 and Non-Member children are $9.

Southwest Movies at Skyline Park - On the corner of 16th and Arapahoe Street in Downtown Denver– Brought to us by Southwest Airlines

What better free family activity to get you and your loved ones out of the house on a Saturday, and in the heart of the city. The next movie featured will be Monsters University showing July 12th. No worries you still have two more to look forward to this month which include Father of the Bride July 19th, and Fly Away Home July 26th. If you’re hungry don’t fret you are surrounded by eateries on the 16th Street mall and in the area.

Now check the weather, don’t forget to put sunscreen on those little ones, and get outside and enjoy.
