Joyce Meyer's former bodyguard, 34-year-old Christopher Coleman, was found guilty in the strangulation deaths of three people: his wife Sheri Coleman, who was 31 at the time of her death, and their 9- and 11-year-old sons.
It's a case involving popular Christian conference leader Joyce Meyer, only because Chris Coleman worked as a bodyguard for Meyer in a $100,000 a year job that he was reportedly afraid to lose if he were to divorce his wife Sheri so that he would be free to marry his alleged mistress, Tara Lintz.
The son of a pastor and a one-time Marine, Chris began an affair with Tara in 2008, and reportedly met her for trysts in various cities, keeping a list of her sexual fantasies, information about her height and weight, and more.
The adulterous duo exchanged text messages and Facebook emails "constantly," Lintz confessed in court, where sex videos of the two were shown.
Long-time followers of the teachings of Joyce Meyer are astounded at the evil that came so close within a Christian circle.
I first began watching Meyer circa 1996, before I even knew her name, and a friend and I would just call her "the lady" who we watched on TV on BET in the morning before we met at work and discussed her Bible lesson for the day.
Over the years, Meyer's funny and real style of preaching captured many followers whose lives were changed for the better from being exposed to the biblical truths she teaches. When she came to Cleveland, this writer was in the audience, having corralled plenty of my friends to come with me.
I may off-handedly remember her sometimes mentioning Chris -- but nothing specific comes to mind. But it's just sad to see that this torrid affair led a man to kill his beautiful wife and two sons -- strictly the kind of "don't give the devil a toe-hold" type of messages that God warns us against.
Wow. There are no winners here, only people who turn their lives around to Christ as a learning lesson in the aftermath.
A gorgeous wife and young sons who went to heaven too soon, a misled man who fell straight into the trap Satan set for him, and a wayward woman who thought she needed the attention of a married man who would murder for her in order to make her life happy.
I hate to see the families saddened and destroyed by such a thing.
