Joy Cone introduces gluten-free sugar and cake cones

One of the oldest manufacturers and largest producer of ice cream cones in the U.S., Joy Cone Co., has introduced a gluten-free sugar and cake cone to their brand.  These cones should be more affordable than what is currently available on the market and will be readily available on store shelves of major grocery store chains in the coming weeks.

This really is a big deal because one of the largest suppliers of cones in the U.S. and one of the most well known has taken on the task of developing gluten-free cones for those of us who follow the gluten-free diet.  The company promises they will taste just like we remember because they have to meet their own high standards for quality and taste. This is why it has taken them awhile to develop gluten-free ice cream cones because they had to be completely satisfied with the final product before taking it to market.

The gluten-free cones are also dairy free, Kosher (Star K), vegetarian, but they do contain soybean oil.  They do not use nuts/tree nuts or peanuts in any of their products, so there is no chance of cross contamination, which is good news for those of you who are gluten-free and allergic to nuts.

Their gluten-free ice cream cones and cups are produced using a mixer that is dedicated to gluten-free batter.  The batter lines to the ovens are completely separated from lines running wheat-based batters and are thoroughly cleaned and tested prior to each gluten-free run.  The gluten-free cones and cups are baked in ovens that also bake their wheat-based cones and cups. To prevent cross contamination, these ovens are shut down for a minimum of one day prior to each gluten-free production run for cleaning and are tested prior to the start of gluten-free cone/cup production.  The best part is they use test strips that can detect gluten particles as low as 5 parts per million.

The Joy brand is the exclusive supplier to McDonald's, Dairy Queen, and Burger King.  Their new gluten-free cones are currently available for purchase on The Gluten Free Mall

If you can't find Joy's new gluten-free cones at your favorite local store, please make your request known to the store manager.  Most Kroger, Publix and Ingles carry other products by Joy, so ask them to make room for the new gluten-free cones!

This Examiner can't wait to try them with my favorite non-dairy ice cream for a special treat!
