Journey tribute band Evolution channels The Who (Photos)

Long Island’s original Journey tribute band, Evolution is expanding their horizons to recreate the music of The Who in “Classic Albums Live” this weekend at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown NJ, then the Ridgefield Playhouse in CT on Feb 28 and March 1. Does this open a new world for the Evolution boys? Maybe.

According to rumors the band is talking with insanely talented Long Island guitarist/vocalist Tom Cavanaugh, to possibly pursue a tribute to The Who. Does that mean any less focus on the sounds of Steve Perry and Journey? HELL NO!

Evolution front man John Robert Murphy of Boston joined the band in 2010 after a show in Bayshore. Over 100 shows under his belt with the new Evolution John joins guitarist Ralph Carbone, Les Jansson on bass, Lance Millard (keys) and Mike Morales on drums playing the timeless classics of Journey like “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” “Oh Sherry,”, “Open Arms,” “Faithfully,” and of course the party anthem “Don’t Stop Believin'.” They’ve played across North America and John’s even toured with Journey’s original keyboard player Gregg Rollie as part of the Gregg Rollie Band to recreate the wonder of Steve Perry.
