Journey into Nyx spoilers: Keranos in card form from StarCityGames

He likes to ride the lightning, what can we say.

With the spoiling of Iroas on Reddit yesterday, one-fifth of the Gods of Journey into Nyx have been revealed - and now that number increases by one, thanks to the other most reliable third-party spoiler source: StarCityGames has Iroas's enemy-red counterpart in the mercurial God of Storms, blue and red Keranos.

Keranos, God of Storms 3UR

Legendary Creature - God (Mythic)

As long as your devotion to blue and red is less than seven, Keranos isn't a creature.

Reveal the first card you draw on each of your turns. Whenever you reveal a land card this way, draw a card. Whenever you reveal a nonland card this way, Keranos deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

A 6/5 for five mana is pretty suboptimal in terms of the stats to cost ratios of the gods, but then again blue and red aren't really a creature-excelling color combination. No, Keranos is all about his unique and insanely powerful triggered ability. Which effect you get may be to some degree unpredictable, but thankfully scry is in this block to manipulate it - and I doubt anyone would complain about either having a one-sided Howling Mine or a Lightning Bolt factory. Too bad he only keys off the first card drawn every turn! He happens to play pretty well with a similarly chaotic-flavored card: Strionic Resonator. Counterburn decks may be out of fashion, but Keranos might help them make something of a comeback.

What do you think of the blue-red God? Let me know in the comments.
