Journey into Nyx spoiler season is officially begun, and as always, it's started with a bang, with a dozen-odd new cards revealed on the mothership along with third-party spoils. Now, one of the biggest third parties that gets official previews nowadays is Reddit, and the Magic Reddit page has graced us today with one of the most fearsome and majestic of the minor Gods of Theros: Iroas, red and white God of Honorable Warfare.
Iroas, God of Victory 2RW
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (Mythic)
As long as your devotion to red and white is less than seven, Iroas isn't a creature.
Creatures you control can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.
Prevent all damage that would be dealt to attacking creatures you control.
I'm just blown away by Iroas - he's everything I hoped he might be for a God of one of my favorite color combinations. Iroas does play up the whole "combat mastery" and tactical aspects of red and white without actually stepping on the toes of the Boros Legion's schtick too much. Even in enchantment mode, 2RW for an evasion ability that halves the effectiveness of your opponents' entire blocking reserves and that means attacking is never unprofitable (you won't even lose guys to deathtouch blockers) is incredible. But merely having an Akroan Hoplite and a Boros Reckoner down on the table means Iroas becomes a creature - one with 7 power like that of his brother who grants those abilities to himself. Given all that game-ending combat prowess, expect red-white devotion to become a real force in Standard once Iroas is in the format.
What do you think of the red-white God? Let me know in the comments.
