In a sequel to the 2012 movie, “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” we continue further into the Jules Verne book, “From the Earth to the Moon” in a new release, “Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon.”
“Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon” is the third installment in the franchise. The journey began in 2008 with the release of “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” filmed in 3D format. In 2012, we traveled to the mysterious island in “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.”
The studio is hoping to have the same cast back for the third film. Josh Hutcherson and Dwayne Johnson are signed on, however, the rest of the cast is still unconfirmed.
Without an exact release date, the film is set for a 2014 theatrical release. Director Brad Peyton will be behind the production.
Warner Bros. Pictures is the distributor and New Line Cinema is in charge of production.
The first film in the series, “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D” would have been a successful money maker had it not been slammed by critics. The sequel came around and people were skeptical about the new release. “Journey 2” was a good surprise and had moved into “hit” status at the box office. It pulled in a $271 million payday on a $79 million budget and the numbers are still climbing.
The producers of the second film are also behind the third.
If Josh Hutcherson isn’t too busy, he should be back to reprise his role for the third feature. After his role in “The Hunger Games” and his advancement in age, it is rather surprising he will return. Sources state he is back for the new release though.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson completed the intrigue for “Journey 2” and like Hutcherson, Johnson has other obligations he is still under. “G.I. Joe 2” and “Pain and Gain” keep him busy, not to mention his commitment to “Fast and the Furious 6” which is still in production.
When casting call for “Journey 3” is finalized, this will be updated.
