This May professional geek god and international man of mystery Joss Whedon will receive an honorary degree from Wesleyan University.
Whedon is an alumnus of Wesleyan's class of 1987. During his time at the prestigious Connecticut school he studied film, and in 2009 Whedon returned to Wesleyan to deliver the Sasha Seminar for Human Concerns keynote address.
On May 26, Whedon will receive an honorary degree from Wesleyan in addition to delivering the commencement address at the university's graduation ceremony.
Wesleyan students who haven't been living in a sensory deprivation chamber for the last two years will know Whedon from his role as the enigmatic writer and director of "The Avengers," a film that shattered box office records and made it ok to believe in superheroes again. Whedon had a phenomenal year in 2012, which marked his rise from cult hero to the reason Whedonites everywhere have been telling the rest of the world "We told you so."
Also being honored at the 2013 commencement ceremony are environmental and social justice leader Majora Carter (Wesleyan ’88) and Jim Dresser (’63), whose many years of service to Wesleyan include having chaired the Board of Trustees.
