From the point of conclusion of “The Avengers,” Joss Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen bring us “S.H.I.E.L.D.” ABC is fast tracking the series to get it aired this fall.
Whedon, co-writer and director for the pilot, is excited about the potential for the show.
I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show. It’s not about murder and it’s not about crime and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool but they stood for something. I like doing a show that does that. We’re trying very hard to be true to Marvel’s ethos and the structure of their universe. So it is definitely a Marvel show.
Since the series has been announced, many have wondered about characters that may make an appearance in the series. Whedon has confirmed the subject has been discussed, however, his first priority is to involve people in the characters and then worry about other topics later.
Cobie Smulders took on the role of Maria Hill in “The Avengers,” and has not participated in the new series due to scheduling conflicts. Whedon confirmed that once her schedule allows her to, they will have her appear on the show.
