Back during NBC's TCA tour in Los Angeles last month, the network announced the release of a "Bombshell" soundtrack from their musical drama Smash. Though much of the music from the Marilyn Monroe musical within the musical was available for download as season one went along, this two-act album was said to include a number of, well, numbers that had yet to debut on the show. Yes, that might be cause for some spoilers to seep out early, through listening to the soundtrack, but new series showrunner Josh Safran was excited by the prospects.
"I actually love that the soundtrack is coming out [now]," Safran said when we caught up with him at TCA.
"When I was a kid, I would often listen to the soundtracks before even seeing the shows. I would fall in love with the stories and the music through the songs first, and then eventually I'd get to see the shows, and I'd have a different level of appreciation for them."
"Bombshell" includes numbers as we originally heard them from season one and will in season two. That means that despite Karen (Katharine McPhee) getting the role of Marilyn at the end of season one, Megan Hilty's Ivy is still featured on the album. So is Will Chase whose Michael Swift was let go as Joe DiMaggio in "Bombshell" due to his affair with Julia (Debra Messing). Songs have not been re-recorded for this album release.
The full album track listing is as follows:
- "Let Me Be Your Star" (with extended intro)
- "At Your Feet"
