Sunday afternoon, Josh Powell and his two sons were killed in a house explosion in Washington State; missing Utah mom, Susan Powell was the mother of the two children. Custody of the two children had been given to Susan Powell’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox who live in Salt Lake City, and the children were visiting their father in Washington when the accident occurred.
Susan Powell is the missing Utah mom who disappeared in December of 2009 in Salt Lake City; Josh Powell, Susan’s husband was the only person named a person of interest in her disappearance.
The house exploded at 12:15 pm Sunday. Local police have not confirmed that the bodies found inside the house were that of Josh Powell and his two sons, but said that they believe it is.
A case worker brought the Powell children to Josh Powell’s house for a visit, but stopped the case worker from getting inside. The case worker reported that they smelled gas, and was calling her supervisor when the house exploded.
Local police do not believe that anyone else was in the house.
Josh Powell has been trying to regain custody of his two children, and just this last week his request was denied, reported CNN.
In court documents, Chuck and Judy Cox said that they blamed, Josh Powell, for "the disappearance, kidnapping/murder of our daughter."
Josh Powell’s father, Steven Powell was arrested in Washington State on child pornography charges a few months ago after thousands of photos of girls and women were found on his computer. Police also found nude photos of two young neighbor girls in their own bathroom that Steven Powell had taken with a telephoto lens. For more information on this story, click here.
Susan Powell was 28 when she went missing on December 7, 2009. Josh Powell was the only person who was named a person of interest in the case. The police stated that the case is highly suspicious. Josh Powell moved from their Salt Lake City, Utah home to Washington State about a month after his wife disappeared with their children, and he did not participate in the search for Susan.
