Josh Groban guest stars on Glee

Josh Groban made a guest appearance on Glee Wednesday night on FOX. The shows plot involved the high school teachers forming a “boy band” called "Acafellas.” Josh attended the PTA meeting where the Acafellas were performing. The star, playing himself, then pops in backstage and gives one Acafella member a piece of his mind.

The character of Sandy, the alleged friend of Josh Groban, tells his co-workers he is Josh's "pen friend" on  MySpace.  He claims he can get Josh to come out to the PTA show with the caveat that Acafella must make him a member. When one teacher questions who Josh Groban is, Sandy barks, “Who is Josh Groban? Kill yourself!” He proceeds to tell the teachers, “He is an angel sent from heaven to deliver platinum records onto us.” Another great line from Sandy is when he spots Josh in the audience at the show and squeals about Josh's looks, “…big brown eyes, cute as a buttermilk biscuit!”

Josh squashes Sandy’s enthusiasm by showing up backstage with his bodyguard, Flex, to issue a restraining order. Josh happened to be in town to attend the induction of Run DMC into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. He proceeds to give Sandy a list of things he should stop doing including emailing nude photos, sending locks of hair, sonnets, edible gift baskets and calling him. After his tirade he then compliments the Acafellas “Great show, explosive.” Josh later reappears with another character named, Doodle, an intoxicated middle-aged woman. Josh remarks that throngs of screaming teenagers don’t do it for him and he rather have an alcoholic. This was quite humorous since in real life Josh's concerts hardly draw the Miley Cyrus or Jonas Brothers crowd.

The shows offbeat humor and witty one-liners were well suited to Josh’s sense of humor. Even the performances were amusing including the Acafellas’ renditions of Bel Biv Devoe’s “Poison” and “I Want to Sex You Up” by Color Me Badd. It would have been fun to see Josh performing with Acafellas especially if it involved choreography.

Josh's appearance didn't give the top spot for the evening but held strong in second place behind NBC's "America's Got Talent" for the 9:00 pm time slot. The show has not been hitting its expectations even with all the hype surrounding it. More stars are planned to appear on Glee including Kristin Chenoweth, Victor Garber and Debra Monk.

Granted, America's Got Talent was huge competition for any program at that time.
