Fans who eagerly awaited the debut of Josh Gates’ “Stranded” on February 27 express mixed reviews of the show. Billed as a paranormal reality show that films the experiences of real people who are stranded in a haunted location for five days with no means of communication with the outside world and no way to escape, the series premiere was set in a haunted hotel on Star Island off the coast of New Hampshire.
Some viewers likened the show to the MTV “Fear” and “Scariest Places on Earth” saying the concept has been done before.
Positive reviews included a post from Kirstim Nastasiak who posted on the "Stranded" Facebook page:
“This is just like The Scariest Places on Earth. Loved it, very entertaining although was highly disappointed not to see Josh Gates at all. I figured he'd be in the beginning, or at least the end to "wrap it up" Throw him in there and it will be outstanding!! Looking forward to more episodes... I'd love to go do that, how do I sign up?”
While negative reviews included a post by Denny Bailey:
“This show IS A JOKE! A waste of time and money. Try using some GOOD actors for a change. These kids were terrible actors ...so lame. Staged and so impossible to believe. I'm so glad that I didn’t watch it all.”
Others have decided to give the show a chance and hope it will improve in time.
This viewer agrees with Kirstim that Josh Gates’ appearance would have added to the show, but couldn’t get past the creepy scene where the participants hung dolls by their necks and tied them to the door knobs.
Supposedly, the motive was to use the dolls’ positions in the hallway to alert them if the doors opened. The eerie poses and the camera shots of the dolls (including the one with only one eye) certainly added creep factor, but it also cast a shadow on the authenticity of the show.
Tune in to “Stranded” on Wednesday nights at 10/9c on SyFy to learn more about the show.
