Josh Gates is back with a new show

Josh Gates, self-described adventurer, TV host and travelin’ fool, announced today on his Facebook and Twitter pages that he will be back on television in a new series “Expedition Unknown.” The new show will appear on the Travel Channel.

From Twitter:

“I’m baaaaaaaaack...@travelchannel! Pack your bags, people!”

No date has been announced, but The Travel Channel has ordered six one-hour episodes of the new series. The premise sounds very similar to Gates’ Syfy show “Destination Truth.” The show will follow Gates as he explores and investigates mysteries from around the world.

The future of “Destination Truth” was up in the air from the last airing, August 14, 2012 until Gates announced on March 27 that the series had been officially cancelled. It makes one wonder if that wasn’t a formality that needed to take place before the announcement of the new show, “Expedition Unknown” could take place.

“Expedition Unknown” is produced by Ping Pong Productions. They produce several other popular television shows including “Haunted Encounters,” “Chasing UFO’s,” “Finding Bigfoot,” and “Alaska Fish Wars.” They also produced two of Gates’ other shows “Destination Truth” and “Stranded” that appeared on the Syfy Channel.

Hopefully the new show will include many investigations of hauntings and ghosts from around the globe in a long, happy run on The Travel Channel.
