Primary elections are coming up in Pennsylvania on May 18. For the 194th legislative district there are five democratic contenders for the seat left vacant by Representative Kathy Mandarino’s scheduled retirement in November. The 194th district encompasses parts of Philadelphia and Montgomery counties.
Josh Cohen is one of the candidates but he is the only one who actually puts animal welfare issues on his platform. “I want to get to Harrisburg and build a coalition of like-minded individuals to make Pennsylvania the first no-kill state in the nation.” This is his sincere desire. “I feel very strongly about this issue” he says.
Cohen is the youngest of the five candidates and refreshing in that he considers himself a public servant, not a politician. While animal issues are not the only reason to vote for Cohen, it is one of the most compelling.
Garrett Elwood and Kim Wolf, two very dedicated local animal welfare and no-kill advocates will be holding a fundraiser for him on Friday, May 7 at Bourbon Blue (the private room downstairs) on Main Street (2 Rector Street) in Manayunk. Tickets are $35 at the door; drink specials include a “No-kill Cosmo” and appetizers will have vegetarian options.
Garrett Elwood, founder of CNKP describes Friday’s fundraiser as “Just a fun gathering of animal lovers supporting Josh Cohen's strong stand in favor of No-Kill. Josh will be there and people will get a chance to talk to him about the issues.”
So, come on out and listen to a candidate who not only recognizes the need for better animal welfare laws in the state but is willing to take the issues to Harrisburg and effect change.
