Josh Brolin has joined the Guardians of the Galaxy cast.

The Academy Award nominee has been confirmed to play the villain Thanos in the upcoming Marvel superhero flick.

Thanos was teased in the end credits of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and was referenced in Thor: The Dark World.

Although the studio has not made an official announcement, the news first broke out by Latino Review and confirmed by Variety Friday, May, 30.

The Latino Review report state that Brolin will be the voice of the Mad Titan in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thanos possesses the superhuman physiology of all Eternals, granting him superhuman strength, endurance reflexes, and agility. He can indefinitely survive without food or water even before his “curse” from Death left him immortal, unable to die.

Brolin is best known for his role in No Country for Old Men, W., Gangster Squad, recently starred opposite Kate Winslet in Labor Day, and can next be seen in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For out this August.
