Since the Friday, May 30 2014, the internet was buzzing as the reports flew out on the casting of the Marvel supervillain: Thanos. The Mad Titan has been teased since the 2012 hit, The Avengers, which left many comic fans and moviegoers wondering what role Thanos would play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, another question that was no doubt circling fan's head is just who would be playing the Marvel nemesis? In The Avengers, Thanos was portrayed by Damon Poltier; however that was likely to change in future films.
Well many finally got a answer as the reports indicated that Thanos has been cast for both Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Who would be playing the Mad Titans? As it stands reports, Thanos will be portrayed by Josh Brolin. The story first started on Latino-Review which suggested that Brolin was taking up the role. While the site is known for releasing more rumors then news, this story seemed to be legit. As it stands, Brolin has not officially taken the role. However, many reports are saying that Josh Brolin will indeed be playing Thanos. As it has been suggested, Josh Brolin will be voicing Thanos. There is no indication that the actor will be physically playing the part; though Guardian's director James Gunn stated that motion capture has been used for Thanos.
Many probably did not even consider an actor like Josh Brolin to play the role of Thanos. For fans, Brolin clearly does not have the same physique as the character ( then again no one on Earth does). However, with this story being all but official, Brolin's casting does have some bearing to it. Brolin is known for playing a variety of characters. The actor has so much range to his performances that he might be able to pull off a villain like Thanos. Only time will tell.
Josh Brolin joins the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy which features Chris Prat, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close.
Thanos appears in Guardians of the Galaxy, which hits theaters on August 1st; followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron which hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
