After a 14-month layoff, Jorge Gurgel returned to the cage on Saturday night in the main event against Mike Ricci at Titan FC 27.

Ricci quickly put an end to the Cincinnati native’s return by stopping him with strikes only 3:57 into the first round in Kansas City, Kan. The fight aired live on CBS Sports Network.

Gurgel opened the fight with a quick burst of strikes but the former “Ultimate Fighter” secured a double-leg takedown only 10 seconds into the fight. Once on top, Ricci stacked Gurgel up against the cage and opened up with ground-and-pound.

The Tristar fight team member eventually hurt Gurgel with elbows and piled on until ref Chuck Wolfe had seen enough. Wolfe stopped the fight at the 3:57 mark and awarded Ricci the first round TKO victory.

Ricci improves his record to 9-4 and it was his first win since being released from the UFC in September. Ricci went 1-2 in the UFC.

With the loss, Gurgel drops to 14-10 and is now only 3-7 in his last ten fights.
