Diet guru Jorge Cruise has become famed for his flat belly weight loss empire, which includes fitness DVDs such as "Body at Home: A Simple Plan to Drop 10 Pounds" and books such as "The Belly Fat Cure: Discover the New Carb Swap System and Lose 4 to 9 lbs. Every Week" (click for details). Jorge joined Dr. Mehmet Oz on his Feb. 19 talk show to explain his new discovery that by cycling carbohydrates, you can boost weight loss without cravings. Plus: Get Jorge's delicious recipes to jazz up your low carb diet.

Jorge says that many women crave carbohydrates as a result of their hormones. He's developed a low carb approach that teaches you to count what he calls sugar calories, which he unveiled in his book "The 100: Count ONLY Sugar Calories and Lose Up to 18 Lbs. in 2 Weeks" (click for details).

But for women over 40, a combination of that approach and carb cycling is needed, says Jorge. The result: His newest book "Happy Hormones, Slim Belly: Over 40? Lose 7 lbs. the First Week, and Then 2 lbs. Weekly— Guaranteed," which explains how to alternate low carb days and higher carb days.

In addition to these diet plans, Jorge emphasizes the benefits of cooking your own meals and even desserts to turbocharge your weight loss. He also notes that by swapping low carb flours and other ingredients for traditional ingredients, you can even enjoy baked goods.

Here are some examples from Jorge to try in your baking:

  • Coconut Flour: High in protein and fiber and low in digestible carbs, use for breaded foods.
  • Almond Flour: Powerful prebiotics, healthy fats, high in protein and monounsaturated fats, use for baked goods.
  • Flaxseed Flour: Rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, use for pancakes and muffins.

2-Minute Cake With Almond Flour

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until the mixture is even and smooth (no lumps).

Pour 1/4 of the mixture into a mug and microwave for 2 minutes.

Refrigerate remaining batter for later.

The following recipe for Skinny Muffins provides you with an alternative to traditional energy bars that provide you with a spike in sugar followed by a sag. The muffins contain coconut oil and fiber to prevent carb cravings and satisfy your hunger.

Makes one serving

Mix all ingredients together in a mug and microwave for 50 seconds. Allow to cool to a safe temperature and enjoy.
