Authentic samba virtuose from Rio de Janeiro in San Francisco this weekend for another memorable concert produced by Nativa Productions: Jorge Aragão plays live at Café Cocomo, in San Francisco, on August 31, 2013.
Raised in the traditional samba suburbs of Rio (which is very different from the American concept of suburb), sambista Jorge Aragão is one major songwriter/musician/singer in the samba scenario in Rio for the past 25 years. He plays the guitar, surdo, cavaco, banjo and cavaquinho (a small string instrument similar to the ukulele). He started his career in the '70s and has since recorded more than 12 albums and composed songs for many acclaimed Brazilian artists including Beth Carvalho, another legendary samba singer.
He has toured the United States many times, and regularly performs everywhere in Brazil. His greatest hits include "Amigos... Amantes," "Do Fundo do Nosso Quintal," "Enredo do Meu Samba," "Ontem," and "Coisinha do Pai."
