Jordn Smith and Kyle Ham dominant in Red Devils 44-41 victory over Orono

CORINTH-- Jordn Smith and Kyle Ham combined to score 38 points and pull down 27 rebounds to lead the Central Red Devils boys basketball team to a 44-41 victory over Orono on Monday evening.

The game featured 12 leading changes, including seven in the first quarter.

Central scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter, and the final four points of the game.

Orono took their biggest lead when Nate DeSisto gave them a 34-29 lead with 18 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Ham scored five points to spark a 9-0 rally, that gave the Red Devils a 38-34 lead.

The Red Riots went on a 7-2 run to take a 41-40 lead.

Smith gave Central a 42-41 lead with one minute remaining. Andrew Prescott sealed the victory with two free throws.

Smith led the Red Devils with 21 points (9-16 FG), 15 rebounds, two steals, one assists, and one block.

Ham recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Prescott added four points, two assists, and one steal. Andrew Speed chipped in with two points, three steals, two rebounds, and two assists.

Central shot 16-54 (29.6%) from the field, including 0-2 from three point range, and 12-20 (60.0%) from the free throw line.

The win jumped the Red Devils from 14th to 11th in the MPA class C heal point standings. The top 11 will qualify for the tournament in February.

Central finished 2-0 against Orono in the regular season. They defeated the Riots 51-39 at Orono on December 11th.

Central (4-6) will have two more heal point worthy games this week. They host PCHS on Wednesday and travel to Dexter on Friday.

Justin White led the Red Riots with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block.

Kennan Collett recorded 11 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Jake Koffman added six points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Orono shot 17-46 (36.9%) from the field, including 0-6 from three point range, and 7-9 (77.7%) from the free throw line.

Orono out-rebounded Central 31-29. The Red Riots committed 20 turnovers, Central committed 16.

Orono (5-6) currently sits sixth in the heal point standings. The Red Riots will host Schenck on Friday and Mattanawcook on Saturday.
