According to a March 4 report from MMA Rising, the summer season for women's MMA is off to a rollicking start with the announcement of a Sugar Creek Showdown 16: Resolution showdown between Jinh Yu and Meghan Wright, which is set for Apr. 6 in Hinton, Okla.
Following the SCS show, the next big card on tap for summer is the Invicta FC 6 event in July.
No official announcements have been made for Invicta FC 6, except that Marloes Coenen will fight the winner of the Ediane Gomes vs Cris "Cyborg" Santos bout set for Apr. 5 at Invicta FC 5.
The card may also feature Carla Esparza vs Claudia Gadelha or Ayaka Hamasaki, plus a bantamweight feature fight.
However, the one fight many fans have been asking about is the long-anticipated rematch between Paige "12 Gauge" VanZant and Jordan Nicole "The Ninja Princess" Gaza.
Besides the obvious sex appeal factor that some MMA journalists hone in on, VanZant and Gaza bring a lot to the table, and a rematch makes perfect sense at this point in both of their young careers.
VanZant, who will be just 19 years old at the time of Invicta FC 6, can't afford to lose back-to-back fights in the Invicta FC ranks. She proved to be a game opponent in her promotional debut at Invicta FC 4, but it's hard to argue that she was outclassed in almost every area by veteran striker Tecia Torres.
Getting back in the win column may be just what the doctor ordered to avoid the pink slip back to the regional MMA ranks, and Gaza was one of her most recent victories.
As for Gaza, a 20-year-old Texan, she desperately wants to fight for Invicta FC to continue her climb up the ladder, and the chance to avenge her last loss would be good reason for matchmaker Janet Martin to book "The Ninja Princess" for the July card.
Gaza already has a fight lined up with Amber Stautzenberger, on Apr. 20 at the DFC 15 event in Fargo, North Dakota, but she should be good to go by July.
MMA fans who want to see Gaza fight VanZant at Invicta FC 6 can send a tweet to @invictafights.
