Joran van der Sloot will be extradited to the U.S. from Peru to stand trial on charges of extortion and defrauding Natalee Holloway’s mother, but not until 2038. Natalee Holloway went missing in 2005 while vacationing in Aruba with classmates. Van der Sloot was the last person seen with the teen alive and he used Natalee’s disappearance to taunt her mother, eventually extorting money from the devastated woman.

According to MSN News on March 10, Van der Sloot is serving a prison sentence in Peru for the murder of a young woman in that country and he won’t be released until that sentence is finished, which is in 2038. He was convicted of murdering a young Peruvian student Stephany Flores after meeting her in a casino while in Lima.

The killing in Peru happened five years to the day that Holloway went missing. Holloway was on a trip with her classmates celebrating their high school graduation. She was last seen with Van der Sloot who was never charged in Holloway’s disappearance and her body was never found.

Years later Natalee’s father had his daughter declared dead. Van der Sloot extorted $25,000 from Natalee’s mother in 2010. He promised to reveal the location of Natalee’s body for that chunk of money. This was right before he left for Peru. He took the money but never revealed where the young woman's body was.

The Holloway family has been through enough with this man and it looks as though they won’t get him into the states for a very long time to face charges on extorting that money. What Natalee Holloway’s mother wanted was to know where her daughter’s body is. Van der Sloot is the only one who can answer that question, as he led her to believe when asking for the money.
