On March 12, 2013, a six month old Chicago baby who was shot five times succumbed to her devastating wounds, reports KABC 7.
Jonylah Watkins was hit by gunfire Monday while her father, Jonathan Watkins, changed her diaper in a minivan at around 1 p.m. Bullets wounded her in the bowels, liver, lung, shoulder, and thigh. She died after undergoing surgery at Comer Children’s Hospital.
The report indicates Jonathan, who police call a reputed gang member, was shot in the buttocks and side, and one bullet grazed his face. CBS News reports he is recovering from surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Judy Watkins, the baby girl’s mother, was shot in the knee when she was pregnant with Jonylah, according to KABC.
Security camera footage is being examined by authorities to garner clues regarding the shooting, the gunman and the getaway van, but as of yet, no one has been arrested for the crime.
According to CBS, police have announced they are unsure as to whether Jonathan will cooperate in the investigation.
