In Savannah, Georgia, Jonie, a white Labrador and pit bull mix was found caring for Chachi, her tiny chihuahua companion; in fact Animal Control found Jonie carrying Chachi in her mouth according to the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.

In this amazing story about compassion and love and perhaps another lesson to be learned from our four-legged friends, Jonie would even occasionally stop and gently release her little friend to lick Chachi's terribly infected eye. The dogs had been roaming the neighborhood around the Delta Circle.

When the two dogs were brought into the Metro Animal Shelter, little Chachi had to be separated from his companion when veterinarians were forced to remove his eye because of the severe rupture.

On Tuesday, however there wasn't a dry eye in the house when Chachi and Jonie were reunited. They licked, whined, caressed and finally cuddled with each other. According to Animal Control Office Christina Sutherin, the perfect ending would be to find a home where both dogs could stay together:

"It's not every day we get to see such devotion between two special dogs like this. They are both such sweet animals. But the relationship they share just sets them apart. It would be wonderful if we could find a home that could take both of them. But that is not always possible."

The dogs are now ready to be adopted. Follow their happy story on Facebook by clicking here.
