According to the Canadian Press, Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba has advanced to the final of the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Winnipeg by defeating Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario 7-6 on Wednesday.

Jones, who clinched first place in the round robin with a record of 5-1, stole a point in the tenth end after Homan was heavy on her draw attempt. The game was a marquis match-up because it featured the defending Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion, in Homan, against the four-time Scotties champion and 2008 World Champion, in Jones.

Chelsea Carey, also of Winnipeg, is in second place at 4-2. Carey beat Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie, Alberta 6-4 and Valerie Sweeting of Edmonton 6-4 on Wednesday. Homan, Sweeting, Heather Nedohin of Edmonton and Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ontario are in a logjam for third place at 3-3.

On the men's side, Edmonton's Kevin Martin and Sault. Ste. Marie's Brad Jacobs are undefeated at 5-0. The two combatants will decide first place on the men's side Thursday evening. John Morris of Kelowna, British Columbia is the only other team above .500 at 3-2.

The winners of the week long curling event will decide Canada's representatives at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
