Jonathan Taylor Thomas enjoyed acting break & 'never took fame too seriously' (Photos)

Anytime the name “Jonathan Taylor Thomas” is mentioned, the sound of little 90’s girls can be heard screeching. Unfortunately for his countless admirers, he left the spotlight for a good while after playing the role of the adorable “Randy Taylor” on ABC's ‘Home Improvement' from 1991-99. Fortunately for Thomas, he got a chance to fulfill some dreams outside of acting. According to a People report dated Friday, March 22, Thomas doesn’t have any regrets about his long break from Hollywood.

“I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old,” Thomas tells People.

During his days as Randy Taylor, “JTT” graced countless magazine covers, and was the poster hanging on the walls of so many young girl's bedrooms. Now at 31, the former TV son of Tim Allen says, "I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break."

After almost a decade away from being front and center, Thomas attended Harvard, Columbia and St. Andrew’s University in Scotland, and thoroughly enjoyed his stint as a student.

"To sit in a big library amongst books and students, that was pretty cool," says Thomas. "It was a novel experience for me,” Thomas recalled.

Now Thomas has made his way back to Los Angeles. He is enjoying some behind the scenes type of work at the moment. People says that he is focused on directing, writing scripts, and utilizing his free time.

“I watch a lot of movies, I hike, I stay up on shows and theater,” revealed JTT.

The former “Home Improvement” star has recently been in the news because he just reunited with Tim Allen for a guest spot on ABC’s “Last Man Standing.”

Thomas who has no regrets about his hiatus says, "I never took the fame too seriously," he says.

"It was a great period in my life, but it doesn't define me. When I think back on the time, I look at it with a wink. I focus on the good moments I had, not that I was on a lot of magazine covers."

Not only was Thomas a remarkable actor, but he is now an educated one, and he has remained a respectable figure in Pop Culture. Thomas has never been one to make the news for negative reasons, like many other child actors.

Perhaps JTT’s admirers will have the chance to read his name in the credits again soon, but until then, 'Home Improvement' reruns are always available.
