Police arrested Michael Montgomery, 21, of Lodi, California, on Thursday and are still looking for two other persons involved with the killing of Denver. The stabbing occurred after a fight ensued between Denver, a Dodgers fan, and San Francisco Giants fans – including Montgomery just before midnight on Wednesday – about 90 minutes after the game in which the Giants defeated the Dodgers. The fight happened approximately four blocks away from AT&T Park.
The deceased man came to San Francisco from Fort Bragg, California, to be with his father, Robert Preece Jr. – a security guard for the Dodgers who lives in Alhambra, California – for his father’s birthday and to cheer on the Dodgers.
After the game, Denver and his father, his father’s girlfriend, his brother, and another friend went to a bar. They encountered Montgomery and others – who didn’t even go to the game – after leaving the bar and exchanged some baseball comments. That’s’ when the stabbing occurred, and Denver was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he died.
The Giants observed a moment of silence in honor of Denver at the Thursday night game between the two teams.
