Jonah Mowry was interviewed on Friday (Dec. 9) by Lara Spencer of Good Morning America (GMA) in regards to a video he posted that went viral. Mowry uploaded a video on YouTube on August 10, 2011 which provided a glimpse of the inner turmoil the young, gay teenager was experiencing before returning to school. It portrayed his pain through tears, sadness and the feeling of peer alienation. This is the pain many bullied children and young adults struggle with from the desire to fit in and to be accepted in society.
Four months later, Mowry’s raw emotion in the August video is being attacked by viewers with harassing claims of him ‘lying’ and ‘being fake’ since a recent video shows him ‘being okay.’

The primary causes of aggression towards others (bullying) are multifaceted and varied with each individual, but many believe the act of bullying (harassment) may be of a learned behavior. Infants and young children are receptive to others who are different without aggression, which displays an innate tolerance to human diversity.
So where does bullying come from?
Bullying behaviors may include and be associated with subtle or blatant parental (or any role model) prejudices leaked through verbal and nonverbal body language in the presence of children, (e.g., generational cycle). Prejudices are ‘attitudes’ whereas discrimination is ‘actions’ on those prejudices.
These negative attitudes directed at individuals who behave or look different may transfer from parent to child unknowingly and may be a catalyst in the act of bullying.
The public attack on Mowry’s authenticity and sincerity of the original video may reflect another harassment behavior which only verifies the vulnerability bullied children must endure.
Bullying is a type of aggressive behavior targeting victims who appear different or submissive to the bully. It can include verbal or physical assaults, mental manipulation and usually is directed at an individual’s race, religion, gender, sexuality, behavioral differences or ability.
