Jon Troutman wins in extra holes at the 26th Mid-Amateur Championship

Eagles Bend Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan. hosted the 26th Mid-Amateur Championship sponsored by the Kansas Golf Association on Saturday and Sunday. At the end of play on Saturday, Zac Burton had posted a seven under 65 to lead after 18 holes in the overall category gross scoring.

It took three playoff holes to determine the winner of the championship. At the end of regulation play Jon Troutman of Spring Hill, Kan. and Burton of Manhattan, Kan. had tied for first place posting scores of nine under par 135 for the tournament. Both players made par on the first two holes before Troutman sunk a 25-foot birdie for first place honors. Jack Courington of Wichita, Kan. posted a four under par 140 for third place. In net scoring, Andy Black of Kansas City, Mo. took first place with an adjusted score of eight under par 128. Burton remained in second with a combined score of 135. Third place resulted in a tie between Willie Scott of Overland Park, Kan. and Andrew King at four under par 136.

In the 25 to 34- age bracket, gross scoring Courington took first place with a four under par 140. Michael Greene of Overland Park, Kan. posted one stroke back for a 141 and second place. Third place went to Zach Vandolah of Kansas City, Mo. with a combined score of one over par 145. Bob Werling of Lenexa, Kan. took first place in net scoring with a seven under par 137. Nick Peterson of Olathe, Kan. finished with an adjusted score of four under par 140. Timothy Resner of Topeka, Kan. and Zach Vandolah received scores of one over par 145 for a tie for third place.

Troutman and Burton tied for first place in the 35 to 49 age group gross scoring posting the nine under par 135. Andrew King of Junction City, Kan. and Kit Grove of Lawrence, Kan. ended the tournament in third place at two under par 142. Andy Black took first place in net scoring with an adjusted score of 16 under par 128. Burton took second with a nine under par 135 and King remained alone in third with an adjusted score of eight under par 136.

In the 50 and older age group gross scoring Doug Kaup of Phillipsburg, Kan. posted a two over 146 to tie Scott Richey of Parkville, Mo. for first place. Third place went to Tom Leonard of Leawood, Kan. posting a three over par 147. Net scoring resulted in Willie Scott of Overland Park, Kan. received an adjusted score of eight under par 136 for first place. Patrick Foreman of La Cygne, Kan. finished in second place at four under par. Third place went to Mike Gibson of Topeka, Kan. with an adjusted score of 142.
