23 years and a restaurant later, two friends get to live their dream each day. Russell Muehlberger and Jon Niederbremer have been competing in BBQ competitions since 1990. They have traveled all over the United States to do so and have the trophies to prove it. They opened a restaurant in 2012 in Overland Park, Kansas.
Deep in the heart of Kansas City BBQ territory, Jon Russell’s business has been steadily growing over the last year. With quick friendly service and BBQ that melts in your mouth, it’s a BBQ lover’s dream. Jon says he gets to come to work every day and drink coffee and eat burnt ends with his best friend.
Ribs are on the menu but so are a variety of sandwiches. The 180 is a pulled pork sandwich while the Jon Russell sandwich is sausage with burnt ends. For the seafood lovers, they have Jammin’ Salmon which is smoked salmon with chipotle aioli and Cajun coleslaw.
With 8 sides to choose from, you won’t be disappointed. There is cheesy corn, Little Jon’s Pit beans, and seasoned French fries (and a lot of them) just to name a few.
There are also 6 different BBQ sauces to pick from. Honey & Spice, Pineapple Poblano, Cherry Chipotle, Raspberry Jalapeno, Blueberry Habanero, and Smokin’ Ghost are the choices.
Jon Russell’s also offers the Little Pit Masters menu as well as daily specials. To feed a crowd, they also cater anywhere from $8.95 to $12.75 a person. If you just want meat by the pound to take home, they offer that too.
After competing all of these years, Jon says the customers are now their judges. Come to Jon Russell’s at 12094 West 135th Street in Overland Park for a great meal and prepare to be a judge.
