DOVER-FOXCROF tT--Jon Phelps sparked the Mount Desert Island (MDI) Trojans baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over the Foxcroft Ponies on Friday afternoon.
Phelps did it with his bat in a 7-2 game one victory. He had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBI. The Trojans scored three runs in the first inning. That run support was plenty for Steven Hanscom.
Hanscom pitched a complete game one hitter. He walked only one and struck out five. Tom Paola and Dylan Carroll had one RBI each. Dylan Collins recorded two hits and two runs scored.
Abe Simpson had the only hit for the Ponies in game one. Simpson and Talon Strout each scored one run. Dylan Huff had one RBI.
Phelps did it with his arm in a 5-3 game two victory. He allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight in a complete game effort
"Their pitchers threw strikes and they played tremendous defense,"Foxcroft coach Mark Chevalier said. "Hats off to (MDI) coach (Mike) Swanson and his staff for having their team ready to play."
Foxcroft (1-2) took a 1-0 lead when Brooks Law hit a one out double and came around to score on a single from Strout.
MDI took a 2-1 lead when Paolen hit a two run single during the top of the third inning. Paola finished game two by reaching base four times on three hits and four RBI.
The Ponies evened the score at two when they took advantage of a MDI error and passed ball during the bottom of the third inning.Paola hit another two run single in the fourth inning to give the Trojans a lead they would not give back.
Phelps reached base six times in the two games from the leadoff spot for the Trojans. Paola and Hanscom provided punch from the middle of the order, while Collins scored five runs at the bottom of the MDI lineup.

Nate Church pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Church did not allow any hits and only walked one. Tanner Strout allowed two earned runs in four innings in game two.
"I think they all (Simpson, Church, and Strout) held their own out there and will be better for having faced a quality lineup," Chevalier said. "We have high expectations for them going forward."
Foxcroft will travel to Old Town and host John Bapst next week. MDI will host Ellsworth
